North Coast Job Seekers is a job search support group for professionals in transition or those who are currently employed but seeking new career options. We provide tools, tips, resources, techniques and networking opportunities to help maximize a job search. If in transition, or want to explore new career options, we encourage attending North Coast Job Seekers meetings.

"North Coast" refers to the geographic region of NE Ohio, particularly the metropolitan Cleveland area (which is on the shores of Lake Erie, hence the "North Coast" of the U.S.). However the resources available here are offered to any who might benefit from them.

HUMAN RESOURCES PANEL

Q&A with HR Experts

Panelists: Kevin Doherty, Steve Melfi, Susan Osciak

This NCJS presentation will be a conversation with a panel of HR leaders.  Topics will include:

  • Their BEST TIPS for the job search process.
  • What is the best way to get noticed when going after a posted opening?
  • Is there more I should be doing? Will my phone calls and emails help or hurt during the process? How much is too much?
  • What is the best piece of advice an HR professional could share with you to make your search more effective?
  • What burning question do you have that an HR professional could answer?

The panel of HR professionals with unique experiences in diverse organizations will share their job search insights and do their best to answer your important questions. Click the button below to find out more about our outstanding panelists.

Kevin Doherty is a Cleveland, Ohio based HR leader with over 30 years’ experience in the profession.  He is currently Sr. Director of Human Resources at the Gebauer Company, a privately held medical device manufacturer.  Prior to joining Gebauer, Kevin was VP of HR at Carlisle Brake & Friction from 2008 to 2016 where he had global HR responsibility for the HR team that supported manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe & Asia.

Kevin has made Northeast Ohio home for the last 30+ years, and thinks it is the best place in the world to work, live, and raise a family.  He and his wife, Mary Cay, have 4 adult children and 1 grandson.  He earned his BBA from the University of Notre Dame, and his MBA from Michigan State University, before relocating to Northeast Ohio in 1991.

Steve Melfi is a visionary Talent Acquisition executive with 25+ years of experience designing and scaling global recruitment operations across Fortune 500 manufacturing, consumer goods, automotive, and industrial sectors. NCJS Job Search Process
Road Map

The NCJS Job Search Process Road Map is the core of our approach to career transition.  The downloadable document in our Resource Library outlines each of the three major waypoints on the road map.  It is important to note that the Road Map is not a simple
1-2-3 step method.  Rather, it is more organic and dynamic – the steps lead to one another, and in the end lead back to the beginning.  It is easier than it sounds, is more intuitive, and is more effective than a "do this list of things and you'll land your dream job" approach.  This is our Road Map for guiding us through the next career move in ways that use our best gifts, skills, passions, and experiences to our advantage.
